Few years ago NASA and DHS jointly collaborated and founded a portable radar unit based on a technology that is used find aliens on other planets. This same technology was used in Sindhupalchok, Nepal to trace and rescue people buried inside the earthquake debris.

A device called FINDER or Finding Individuals for Disaster and Emergency Response was used in Sindhupalchok to save the lives of four buried people trapped under 10 feet of concrete for four days after an earthquake of 7.8 Richter scale hit Nepal. This technology detects the heart beats of people and informs to the operator outside about possible alive people trapped inside the debris.

The story of four lives saved by 'alien finder' could have become four dead people found trapped inside a rubble, if there were no any device called FINDER that was initially developed to trace aliens in outer space. So, technology is indeed a boon to mankind.
